Orthopantomogram or OPG is an x-ray of the lower half of the face. It is usually in the form of a panorama or wide-format which shows all the teeth in the lower and upper jaw in one image. It also shows teeth that have not emerged or in some cases where teeth are missing. It is also useful in cases where there are issues with the jaw joints or bones as well as in planning for orthodontic treatment.
When you have an OPG at Sydney Specialist Dental Group, you will go into a specifically designed room, you will be asked to remove all jewelry, glasses and metal objects and you will stand still with your jaw resting on a ledge while the machine moves slowly around your head and captures the image.
The process is painless and only lasts a few minutes.
